As a long-time resident, I am humbled by the opportunity to serve Williamson County as treasurer. The treasurer’s office tends not to make it on the evening news (and I plan to keep it that way), and I would like to take a moment to explain what we do and why my campaign for re-election is important.
In March 2017, I began the Williamson County Treasurer’s role, filling the final two years of a four-year term. While I was honored that the Williamson County Commissioners’ Court unanimously appointed me to this position, I also want the opportunity to earn the support of our residents. I’m happy to visit with anyone who would like to learn about the treasurer position and our campaign for the 2018 election. Most importantly, I would like to earn their support and their vote.
Put simply, the County Treasurer is the county’s banker. In this role, my staff and I have the daily responsibility to deposit, account for, and when appropriate, invest the approximately $500 million in funds that Williamson County holds on any given day. Nearly every dollar collected or spent by the county passes through my office at some point. As County Treasurer, I am the county’s chief investment officer. We ensure that there is enough money in the general operating account to cover any given day’s expenses and keep the rest invested to provide additional income for the county. We also manage the bank depository, courier service (armored car) and merchant services (credit card processing) contracts and administer the county’s unclaimed property programs. In my capacity as secretary of the county’s bail bond board, and my staff is charged with managing the licensure and oversight of bail bondsmen in the county. We have a small staff and small budget. The roles that my office fulfills aren’t glamorous, but they are vital to the county’s financial management.
How can you help? Beyond your vote at election time, I would be honored to consider you among my family of supporters. If you feel moved to do so, I would also be humbled to earn your financial contribution to help spread our message to the rest of the county. Thank you for your support.
